Your Mission
As a PCB Assembly & Soldering Operative, you will use traditional hand-soldering techniques to assemble, test and rework printed circuit boards and cable products.
Working from bills of materials and detailed work instructions, you will produce reliable, high-quality electronic assemblies. You will check your work carefully, identify defects and contribute to our aim of getting every product right first time.
How you will make a difference
-
Complete high-quality hand soldering: Solder electronic components onto printed circuit boards using traditional hand-soldering techniques.
-
Assemble and test electronic products: Build and test PCB and cable products in line with the correct bills of materials and work instructions.
-
Inspect your workmanship: Check solder joints, component placement and completed assemblies before signing off each works order.
-
Carry out rework: Remove and replace components, correct soldering defects and complete other rework on PCB assemblies when required.
-
Maintain accurate records: Identify, reject and record faults or errors found during assembly and testing.
-
Support continuous improvement: Participate in new product introductions, training and improvement activities, providing practical feedback to Engineering.
What you should be good at
- Hand-soldering skills: You have experience of traditional hand soldering and can produce neat, consistent and reliable solder joints.
- PCB assembly: You can accurately place and solder electronic components onto printed circuit boards.
- Careful, detailed work: You have good hand-to-eye coordination and can complete precise, repetitive tasks to a consistently high standard.
- Quality checking: You can inspect your own work, recognise poor solder joints or incorrectly fitted components and take appropriate corrective action.
- Following technical instructions: You can work from bills of materials, assembly instructions, diagrams and pick lists.
- Safe working: You understand the importance of handling electronic components safely and maintaining a clean, organised workstation.
- Education and experience: You have good GCSE grades, or equivalent, in English and Maths. Previous electronics manufacturing or soldering experience is desirable. An electronics-related qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.
What you can look forward to
-
Learn new technology: Develop your skills beyond traditional hand soldering, with future opportunities to train on and operate our SMT equipment.
- Private Medical Insurance to help you access healthcare when you need it. (post probation)
- Group Life Assurance for added financial security and peace of mind.
- Income Protection Cover to support you if you're unable to work due to long-term illness.(after one year)
- Competitive Workplace Pension Scheme with contributions through Scottish Widows, helping you plan for the future.
- Cycle to work scheme (post probation)
- Salary Sacrifice Care Lease Scheme (post probation & subject to eligibility criteria)
- 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays
- Christmas shutdown (holiday allowance used)
- Birthday leave: A paid day off on your birthday
