Your Mission
The Heat Treatment Operator 1st Shift (6:00am to 2:00pm) is the sole owner of the heat treat work center, responsible for end-to-end processing of metallic and polymer components to meet hardness, flatness, and dimensional requirements. This role sets up and operates heat treat ovens and auxiliary equipment per defined recipes, fixtures parts properly, executes multi-step heat treatment sequences (including quenching), and performs shrink-fit assemblies. The operator manages the work center schedule to ensure on-time delivery, adherence to quality standards, and full compliance with safety and PPE protocols. Success in this role requires a self-managed, detail-oriented professional with strong technical judgment and hands-on problem-solving skill
How you will make a difference
- Set up, program, and operate heat treat ovens/furnaces per approved work instructions and process recipes.
- Prepare and fixture parts correctly to control distortion and achieve required flatness and dimensional tolerances.
- Load/unload ovens safely; verify soak times, ramp rates, and dwell temperatures; execute quench steps as specified.
- Process metals and polymers using appropriate temperature ranges and cooling methods to achieve specified properties.
- Perform shrink-fit assemblies by heating/cooling components to press together parts per standard procedures, ensuring interference fits are achieved without damage.
- Conduct pre- and post-heat treatment inspections, including hardness testing and visual checks for scale, cracking, or warpage.
- Identify nonconforming material; initiate and process NCRs in accordance with company procedures; support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Perform rework operations as needed for hardness/flatness recovery, following procedures within approved limits. Work Center Ownership
- Plan and manage the heat treat queue to meet production schedules and OTD (ontime delivery) targets.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of heat treatment area.
- Ensure PPE use and safe handling of parts.
What you should be good at
- High school diploma or GED required.
- • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- • Ability to read and follow work instructions and technical drawings.
