Your Mission
HOERBIGER (Canada) Ltd. is seeking a Journeyman Machinist to join our Edmonton team. This role involves setting up and operating CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture, repair, and inspect precision components while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
How you will make a difference
- Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes, mills, grinders and drills.
- Perform precision machining to close tolerances and machine prototype parts.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), in both metric and imperial measurements.
- Use precision measuring instruments to inspect and verify part quality.
- Read CNC programs (G & M code), perform basic shop-floor programming, and make tooling adjustments as required.
- Diagnose tool wear, optimize machining processes, and recommend improvements to equipment, tooling, and setups.
- Assemble, disassemble, clean and test reciprocating compressor components using various machinery, hand and power tools.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance checks on machinery, as required.
- Maintain a clean work environment and work collaboratively with the team.
- Comply with company Safety and Quality policies in alignment with ISO 9001 and 45001 standards.
What you should be good at
Qualifications
- Journeyman Machinist certification required; Red Seal designation considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating and setting up both manual and CNC machines.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, engineering blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measurement tools.
- Experience in both high-volume and low-volume manufacturing environments preferred.
- Experience in the oil and gas industry, with reciprocating compressors, and multi-pallet machining systems is an asset.
- Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes is required.
Skills
- Strong math, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively in English.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn and utilize internal systems (ESM).
Physical Demands & Schedule Requirements
- Standing and walking for long periods of time during shift.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Frequent active movements such as bending, twisting, reaching, pushing or pulling.
- Flexibility to work overtime, extended shifts, and weekends as needed to support production requirements.
Work Environment
- Warehouse/industrial setting which includes various background noise from machinery, forklifts, and tools.
- Personal protective equipment must be worn, such as CSA-approved steel-toe safety boots and safety glasses. Gloves and hearing protection are worn, as required.
