Field Service Engineer for Hydrogen Compressor Packages

Your Mission

Be at the forefront of Europe's hydrogen transition! Take a key role in hydrogen mobility and trailer filling station projects. You oversee the installation and commissioning of our hydrogen compressor packages on-site, ensure seamless project execution and a smooth customer handover. As a trusted field specialist, you are the go-to person for troubleshooting and on-site issues, coordinating both HOERBIGER teams and external contractors. Your insights from the field will directly shape the future of our products, making you a vital part of our innovation and sucess.

How you will make a difference

As our Field Service Engineer, you’ll be the engine that keeps our hydrogen compressor skid projects running smoothly — from installation to commissioning to after-sales support.

Installation & Commissioning

  • Supervise, coordinate, and actively support the on-site installation and commissioning of HOERBIGER hydrogen compressor packages.
  • Take care of the essentials: Oversee transport, housing construction, skid/motor alignment, piping, electrics, and system checks.
  • Perform leakage tests, prepare systems for start-up, perform acceptance tests, and identify and resolve deviations.
  • Coordinate third-party contractors, work closely with internal teams and customers, and deliver clear documentation - including acceptance reports and smooth handovers.

After-Sales Support

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade compressor packages on-site.
  • Lead failure investigations and implement solutions to keep systems running reliably.
  • Deliver precise reporting and documentation of all service activities.

What you should be good at

  • Hands-on experience: At least 3 years working with machinery, ideally rotating equipment and PLC systems (Siemens, Bachmann, Beckhoff preferred)
  • Technical background: Education in mechanical, electrical, mechatronic engineering or a related field
  • Problem-solver mindset: Strong technical know-how, structured approach, and proactive mindset
  • Team spirit: Able to collaborate and build relationships in a small, supportive team
  • Willingness to travel: Around 75% of the time—your workplace is wherever the units are. 
  • Communication skills: Fluent English and confident communication
  • Extra points: Eexperience in Oil & Gas or other safety-critical industries, reciprocating compressors, SAP, or ATEX certification will earn you bonus kudos.
